The Good "Old" Ways

I really should be getting into jammies and bed right now, but something happened that was pretty funny!! And I just HAD to tell someone!!!
Big Daddy has an uncle who is past 80, and is married for the 2nd time. His wife has had some major problems (as has he), and she can no longer care for herself, so she has been admitted to a nursing home.
My mother in law called to let us know that Uncle V tried to put an ad in the local newspaper where he lives. He wants to buy a wife!!! She is to be between 30 and 50!
Oh it gets better than that!!! His oldest son had a "life in" girlfriend several years back, who is now living in the same town as Uncle V. He called her and offered her $50,000 to move in and be his wife!!!! Talk about moving on!
His daughter lives in the same community as we do, and mother in law talked to her about the "purchase" Uncle V is trying to make. Needless to say, his daughter is on her way to his town to try and get him into the facility with his wife.
His WIFE---one isn't even completely moved out, and he is trying to buy another!
I just find this funny---
And we thought raising our kids was bad!!!!!
Well, if you are in the market for an old fart, with money to spare, a dirty house, and probably just as dirty a mind, let me know!!! I can fix ya right up!!!
Gotta run now as I'm in between cakes---just had to share!
Isn't life fun!!!????####

WHASSS UPPP????

Hey Friends!!!! What's going on in your neck of the woods???

Tonight was Wednesday dinner night at church---BBQ Pork Sandwiches, Baked Beans, Pasta Salad, Tossed Salad & Caramel Cake.

AND---I had a catering dinner to serve @ 6:30!!! So, I spent Tues evening cooking & this afternoon cooking, and then at 4 left the church kitchen in the hands of my trusty assistants, and scurried off to the home to be served!!!

What did I serve??? Lasagne, Steamed Veggie Medley, Strawberry Spinach Salad, Garlic Cheese Bread, Cheesecake w/Lemon Blueberry Sauce, and Chocolate Sheet Cake.

My sis & I served the meal, cleaned up and were loading up to leave when lo and behold the tornado sirens went off!!! Can you say "Clean up in seconds?"!!!
We did!!! That place was spotless, trashless, and the car packed in the shortest amount of time you can imagine! I think WE looked like the tornado!!! Then we beat it home in torrents of rain. Sis kept saying "that looks like a wall cloud". I just told her to keep her eyes open, that I wasn't stopping til I got home. If I have to go to the fraidy hole, I sure ain't goin with that bunch of people we served!!!! So, we drove like mad women. I told her we could be known as the "Twister Sisters"! She didn't think that was too funny. I think she was more afraid of my driving than of the storm. Anyway, we made it home safe and sound---perhaps a little wet, but all in one piece.

Boy it has rained and rained and rained! I expect the weeds will take over the lawn before it gets dry enough to mow!!!

Now I just have a cake to have made for Friday afternoon, then a graduation cake for Tuesday. For 300! It'll just be a full size sheet cake and they'll cut the pieces really, really small!!!

Time to take the cakes out of the pans. So, see ya later alligators!!!

April Showers DO Bring May Flowers!~~

Happy May!!! I missed posting on May Day---wanna know why???? Cause I was delivering May Baskets!!
Some of the ladies from the church I attend got together for 3 Thursdays in April, and made May Baskets. Then on May 1 we delivered them to the Assisted Living Centers in town--we have 2.
Now, they weren't fancy by any means. We simply took a paper party hat, traced for our template, cut them out of cardstock, covered them with pretty wrapping paper, attached ribbon hangers, decorated with stickers, added a Bible verse and put artificial flowers & Spanish moss inside. Some of them were kind of gaudy, but it's the thought (verse?) that counts.
Ok, I have to admit- this WAS my idea. I have always, always loved the idea of May Baskets. Most of the young gals I talked to didn't even know what they were--shameful! So, it was a learning & teaching experience!! The smiles we got when we delivered them--WOW, it was so worth all the trouble of getting supplies, making them, giving up "valuable" time. One of the gals who helped deliver the baskets has a 3 year old daughter who helped. And when it came time to deliver, she showed up with a tiara on and a wand. How cute!!! She became "Princess May Basket". You gotta know the residents of the centers LOVED her!!! So now I'm all pumped up to make small stockings to deliver at Christmas! We're going to work all summer on those.
Doing things for no apparent reason just makes ya feel so darn good. Like a emotional pat on the back! And I believe no good deed goes un-returned, so maybe when I am old, gray(er) and lonely, someone will come visit me!!!
Today was a Senior Adult Banquet at church. Now, don't you know I am the "official" cook for this event!!! They are a H.O.O.T.!!! I love serving those people! If you are craving a good hug, this is the place to go!!! Some of them haven't had a good hug in days, and boy, do they love giving them out!!!
What? You wonder what we had for lunch???? Well, let me just tell you!!! We had pork tenderloin (marinated in an apricot nectar mixture), steamed broccoli with lemon butter sauce, cheese potatoes, baby spinach salad with homemade dressing, and lemon-vanilla parfaits topped with fresh strawberries! Yummy!
I usually don't like pork cause of it's dry tendencies, but that was the request, and Big Daddy took over the cooking and it was tender and succulent!!! A couple of the girls from the youth group were servers, and they had such fun! It's really good to see the youth get involved with the Senior Citizens. So much to give on both ends.
Had dinner with Hank last night!!! My niece turned 20 on Wednesday, and called all of the family together at Texas Roadhouse for her birthday! We had a great time. Hank was sooooo cute! I took a goody bag with a couple of cars, Spongebob cards, and little plastic lizards---he played all evening. I won my "Smart Ya Ya" badge! I felt so conpetent!!! One hurdle successfully handled. Now, you know that means the next one won't work!!! But, I'm feeling pretty darn proud!
AND--I took a couple of computer classes this week---one Power Point and one called "What About Blogs?" Boy, were they fun!
But now, dear bloggies, I am wiped out! It's been a long week, a long day, and I am feeling tired!!! And my feet hurt! So, it's off to the horizontal state for me!!!
Enjoy all the May flowers!!!

Sunday Sighs!

What a farmer!!!

Did everyone have a great weekend??? Mine began on Friday; I took a "sick day"--mental health must be revived, right????

So Friday, I didn't get "fixed" all day. What a glorious feeling! Now I like to be all girly girly as much as the next gal, and I love feeling "good"! But now and then, one must just veg out! I cleaned the bedroom from top to bottom, and then I took a nap!! Ha ha ha. And I baked some cookies from Martha Stewart's new cookie book. MMMMMM

Saturday we took the long road to my daughter's--they are building a house, and the frame work is done, so off we went. Of course we went to see the house!! Hank was just a bonus--oh yes, you doooo believe that right???? My son in law's grandfather gave him 50 acres of land, and the views they have from every window in their house will be fabulous!!! No houses in sight, just hills, trees, and wildlife. They are off a highway, but sit back far enough that they can't be seen. And they have a gated entrance, so it's pretty safe. His parents live 1/2 mile down the road, his aunt another 1/2 mile and his grandfather a couple of miles west.
After leaving "the far country" we went to an Herb & Garden show in Jenks. Not too impressed. Seen one herb, seen them all. And lots of the vendors were jewelry, food, etc. More of a "carnival" event. I would have liked to have seen more garden decor items. Oh well.
Then on to the River Walk, where they were having an Art Show. It was interesting, but I was tired of looking at that point. Mosaic Queen, they had some mosaics but none to rival your work. And Fanciful Twist, they had no art that compared to yours!!! I would have done better to come home and visit my bloggie friends!!!
Then, of course, to Sam's! No trip would be complete without a trip there. Had to purchase food for Wednesday's church meal, along with food for a Senior Adult Banquet next Saturday. One fancy free weekend leads to another busy one!!! Wednesday is lasagne, and the Seniors have requested pork tenderloin. I have a new marinade I'm going to try out--it contains apricot nectar. Sounds yummy---I'll let you know!!
Sunday was church day, and NAP DAY!!!! Yeah, I didn't have a thing to do, so I took me a long afternoon nap. Recharge my psychie!!! And my body!!!
Next Sunday I'm going to a book signing featuring nationally renowned interior designer Charles Faudree. He's one of my favs & I am sooo excited! I'll let you know how that turns out!!
Well, bloggie friends, that's about it for my weekend!! How about yours???
Have a restful night!

Huh?????

Ok, I'm really, really confused. The news has been reporting about a young (teen, I think) girl, who while a the mall, experienced a man taking a picture under her dress with his cell phone.

Yes, you read right -- UNDER HER DRESS!!!!! After reporting this, and after much "legalese", it was determined by a "power who be" (judge) that the man could not be prosecuted because at the mall, there is no expectation of privacy.

W WWW HHHHH A AAA TTTTT???????

Under your skirt? Of your private parts????

Now, if she were in a bathroom, or dressing room, she could have that expectation of privacy, but not in the mall arena--so says the judge.

You have got to be kidding!!!!

We wear clothing to keep others from seeing our private areas. We expect that clothing to cover in a decent fashion. We DON'T expect someone to circumvent the clothing in order to photograph our private areas!!

So, does this mean that the flasher is no longer at fault? Should we expect him to cover himself in a public place? If the judge in this case is understood, I think not. We have no "expectation of privacy" in the reverse either. So, flashers should not be prosecuted. Except if they flash in bathrooms or dressing rooms.

And what about our undies? Should we be forgiven for indecent exposure in public areas? Evidently so according to this judge! We shouldn't even have to wear clothing--except in dressing rooms and bathrooms. There is no expectation of privacy in public areas.

So, I can go up to a guy, stick my hand down his shirt, and photograph his abs? Sure, anywhere but in the dressing rooms and bathrooms. He should have no expectation of privacy!

And, what about the girl--who if she is a teen---???? What if this lunatic puts her picture on the web? What if he alters it? Does she have an "expectation" that her image will not be used for predators?

I just don't get it!!! Expectation of privacy? Give me a break. And get that camera out of that judge's hand!!!

Fashion H.U.R.T.S!!!!!

I love stilletos--always have, always will. They make the leg look longer (for me that's a BIG plus) and, gosh darn it, I think they are sexy!!! This is the closest to "looking sexy" I'll ever get!

HOWEVER, as I am in the throes of middle age, and seem to be falling victim to gravity, pollution, the sun, and everything else that causes one's body to erode, (except smoking----I don't smoke, yuck!!), I find that the pads of my feet are dangerously thin. And I still wear stilletos.

That said, today, after church, Big Daddy and I decided we needed to run to the mall--do not pass home, do not collect sensible shoes--I thought, oh heck, I can do this. I used to wear these heels all day long, and it brought just twinges of discomfort. Hello mid life!!! Once at the mall, walking from one store to the other end, my feet were aching like I was walking on hot coals with my toes turned under and my achilles heels sliced!!! I had to get back to the car, and I wasn't going down easy! I would prove that I could do this---age wouldn't get the upper hand! But, alas, after walking the entire length of the mall & halfway back, I surrendered. I looked at Big Daddy, and must have have had the appearance of sheer terror, cause he asked if I needed to look at "comfortable" shoes. I could barely squeak out "Please!". Went into Macy's and found a pair of flip flops that matched my Sunday best ( I am complete with jewelry to match the dress), and headed to the door. In the parked car I chunked the hosery and slipped my feet into those glorious flips! Didn't even care what the look said about me----continued my shopping with a re-energized determination!!!

What we do to look good!!!

Now, I'm not going to go into the fact that I was at the mall purchasing new clothing cause the old clothing has sat in the closet and SHRUNK over the winter. I think the ice storm had something to do with it. I hate the first stages of menopause. I swear this is why my boobs have grown---and my stomach to match. I swear this is what is up with the desire to eat each and every minute of each and every day!!! I swear that's why I toss and turn every night---go to bed so dead dog tired that I can't hold my eyes open UNTIL ---shazaam! My head hits the pillow and I am WIDE AWAKE for hours. Only to fall asleep for an hour and wake up fully awake! That's my story and I'm swearin to it!

Gotta run for now. It's late and I want to go WAKE UP!!! ha ha ha

Have a great Monday, and I'll be back (oh lordy--shades of Terminator!)
