What's In A Name??????

Penny the Queen had a link to this site to take the quiz that reveals the meaning of one's name. She & I have alot of the same characteristics----go figure!!!

So----my name is Pamela, which is as follows!!!

You are influential and persuasive. You tend to have a lot of power over people.Generally, you use your powers for good. You excel at solving other people's problems.Occasionally, you do get a little selfish and persuade people to do things that are only in your interest. You are usually the best at everything ... you strive for perfection. You are confident, authoritative, and aggressive. You have the classic "Type A" personality. You are confident, self assured, and capable. You are not easily intimidated. You master any and all skills easily. You don't have to work hard for what you want. You make your life out to be exactly how you want it. And you'll knock down anyone who gets in your way!You are friendly, charming, and warm. You get along with almost everyone. You work hard not to rock the boat. Your easy going attitude brings people together. At times, you can be a little flaky and irresponsible. But for the important things, you pull it together. You are relaxed, chill, and very likely to go with the flow. You are light hearted and accepting. You don't get worked up easily.Well adjusted and incredibly happy, many people wonder what your secret to life is.

I guess, maybe, ok, it does sound alot like me. I don't know about that relaxed bit---however, I DO like to relax!

You too can find the meaning of your name at:

It's getting ready to STORM!!!! I mean really STORM!!! There is thunder and lightining, and rumbling. Hail is on the horizon. Rain is a sure thing. I'm going to get under the covers, watch a little more TV and enjoy sleeping through the storm.

I really like storms. Always have. Love the sound of rain. No, I don't enjoy when people have to suffer cause of them, but there is nothing more soothing than the sound of rain falling. And I love hearing the rumble of thunder. Lightining amazes me. I plan to relax and enjoy!!!

More later bloggies. Have a restful night!!

Snips, Snails and Polka Dots!!!

Guess who I played with this weekend???? Yes Hank came to spend Saturday, Saturday night & Sunday. Oh, his mom and dad came also!! His dad had to spend all day studying both days (he's in nursing school!), so daughter and Hank came and played. The weather was great, and we had a super fun time. He's here with Natalie, the neighbor of my in-laws. Natalie & her parents also attend church with us, and we have become quite good friends. Natalie's dad built her this "super jungle gym" with a slide at each end, a covered sandbox, playhouse with windows (this is where they are sitting), and swing area. Hank had the best time. They found a large worm, and Hank kept talking about the "snake"!!

I really like side photos of kids "being kids". This is Hank playing in the sandbox (no kidding, duh???), and having the best time. We had to bribe him to leave. Luckily Natalie had a "tractor" she had outgrown, and gave it to Hank, so we had that to bribe him to leave with!!!

This is the wedding cake I delivered on Saturday. I always have this FEAR of the cake falling over and onto the floor the minute I drive away! I didn't receive a phone call today, blasting me, so it must have stayed upright. It just makes me so dadgummed nervous!!!

Polka dots she said. Black polka dots. And a turquoise ribbon. Hearing it, it sounds rather bizarre, but it turned out just gorgeous. At least I thought the colors worked well together.

This is the little cake I make for them to cut and feed one another. They can take the picture with the large cake, to look like they are cutting into it, but it's so difficult to cut from the standing cake and feed the large layers to one another, so I came up with the idea to make a "mini" cake for them to feed one another. It sets behind the wedding cake, so no one else sees it.

And this is the groom's cake. Hmmmm--well, I don't pick the theme for this one. It was a replica of his car, and he emailed me a photo and said to do a "cartoon" type image. Hmmm, well I hope he was pleased with this!!!

Saturday night we grilled steaks for Hank, his parents and our son. It was a fun evening, sitting around the dinner table, watching my grown children converse, and interact with Hank. Can't believe the time has gone so quickly! It should still be MY son in the high chair. The second generation really does make you want to slow down time.

Well, as you can tell, it was a busy family weekend. Next weekend is just as busy, as I have a luncheon to prepare and serve, and then a social function I must attend.

So maybe housework will come the last weekend!!!

Oh yes, AND next Sunday I want to go to a book signing. Trisha Yearwood has published a cookbook which got a really good write up in the paper. I do collect cookbooks, and this one sounds good, and I'll get to actually see Trisha and her mom and her sister. I had quite a beef with Trisha for quite sometime, but many things have happened publicly with Garth's ex-wife, and shown a light on her true self. So I will forgive Trisha and buy her book. Plus, I do think she sings real pretty & she's pretty & not pencil thin--I really like that in a gal!!!

Back to work tomorrow! Best get some rest from this point in the evening on!!!

Have a great end of the weekend evening!!!

OVERLOAD!!

Visualize mountain stream, flowing slowly, steadily down the river bed. Hear the trickling of the water. Feel the cool breeze wafting across the face. Deep breath of fresh air--breathe in, breathe out. Breathe in, breathe out.

I just read my BFF, Penny the Queen's, post, and I am so totally understanding of her fatigue. She & I both have empty nest lodging, and I think therefore, feel compelled to continue in the mad pace that we learned from working , running the household, and raising children. We also have this unbearable need to create, to nuture, to "fix" life, and not just for ourselves, but for the vast population we encounter. We must "create" items to make their lives easier, more glamourous; we must meet their needs, whether those needs be material, spiritual, emotional, and such.

And so, we continue in this mad pace---working at the jobs that meet the obligations, running the household as if there were an award ceremony in the future, saying "yes I can!" to each and every notion we encounter along the way. After all, isn't our worth tied to what we can produce? Aren't we judged by the cleanliness of our homes, the deliciousness of our tables, the awe of the work of our hands, the answers we provide to our families????? We're going to end up like Little Sambo's tiger--turned into butter cause we've chased our tails round and round the tree!

So, BFF, I have always had this song playing in the back of my mind. I remember watching the Barbra Streisand remake of "A Star Is Born" and coming away ONLY remembering the impact THIS SONG had on me. I ran and bought the soundtrack for the movie JUST so I could listen to this song, repeatedly, which I did for month on end after the movie. I would play it, replay it, replay it, and on and on. It was the story of my life. It best described my purpose. It explained the "whys" of all that I do. So BFF, here it is for you. And for all the others afflicted by this "purpose driven life" (Sorry Rick Warren--but that is the best title I can come up with!!!)

I want to learn what life is for
I don't want much, I just want more
Ask what I want and I will sing
I want everything, everything

I'd cure the cold and the traffic jam

If there were floods, I'd give a dam

I'd never sleep, I only sing

Let me do everything, everything

I'd like to plan a city, play the cello

Play at Monte Carlo, play Othello

Move into the white house, paint it yellow

Speak Portugese and Dutch

And if it's not too much

I'd like to have the perfect twin

One who'd go out as I came in

I've got to grab the big brass ring

So I'll have everything, everything

I'm like a child who's been set free

At the fun fair , every ride invites me

Saying that I only

Get my share

Doesn't seem fair

I could live as I must

If they would just

Give me the time to turn a tide

Give me the truth if once I lied

Give me the man who's gonna bring

More of everything

Then I'd have everything, everything

Ok, now I don't know HOW I hit the key that did that funky spacing thing, and I don't know if it will show in the post--it does right now and it's weird!! If you have to read this with all those extra spaces, sorry!

But really, doesn't that sound like us BFF? We don't even have time to see each other once in a while, just two doors down. We don't have time to run to Target and ooo and ahhh. We've let ourselves go so we can have everything, and guess what--we've lost us!!!

Deep stuff, huh?

All together now----deep breath, cool mountain stream,

Oh heck, I'm going to bed!!!

Spring Storms & Nonsense!

Today was the first "big" spring storm of this season. I don't know about your area, but spring storms are a "big" deal here--at least with the weather casters!!! They all get to play with the techie toys that the stations have paid mega bucks for, and tap into our television shows with NONSENSICAL news.

I stayed home from work today, and had the TV on from 8 on. They cut into GMA with their Doppler and MESO systems. Whoo hoo! I did hear of towns that I have NEVER heard of before. Now that wouldn't be so surprising except these towns are within an hour and a half of where I live! Never, never heard of them. Towns listed were: Coodys Bluff, Hogshooter, Cockleburr Flat, Okena, Matoaka, Elba and Edgewater Acres. I've driven all over this county and the next closest counties each way and, by golly, have never seen a sign with those names printed.

The weather men continue to amaze! They announced that tornado sirens were going off in Talala, so if you are in Talala and watching, well, good morning and take cover. If you were in Talala and still watching TV Auntie Em is waiting for ya! Take cover if you hear the sirens--that's what we've always done. Maybe in Talala they run and turn on the TV when the sirens sound. Hmmm.

Love the names of the storm chasers. This morning they were taking phone pics from "Fast Freddy". I swear that was his name. What else does Fast Freddy do for a living? Is he always available at the drop of parcipitation to run all over the county chasing storms? This evening on the local news, the weather man actually said, ok, sit down and get ready, "One of our storm chasers has been following storms for over 26 hours. That's more than a full day" Why thank you Mr. Weather Man---we would have never figured that one out. Maybe they don't teach such things in meteorology school, but I learned that in elementary school. Do appreciate you making sure we all knew the hours in a day! Sad part was, he had to chase around for 26 hours to FIND a storm.

They also announced (on the same weather cast), that they had searched all through the day, and had only found one incident of an injury or damage today. Now wait--maybe this storm WASN'T as severe as indicated! Could that be???? Maybe that injury/damage was someone banging their head on the wall while listening to the never-ending weather coverage!!!

I really got tickled when, during the course of the day, they announced in one area the wind was 58 mph, maybe more, and the hail was 2" in diameter, maybe less. Maybe? Maybe? MAYBE????? With all that technology, we get a MAYBE???? They can list within 2 minutes where the storm will hit next, but the wind mph--it's a MAYBE?????

And don't you just love how each of the network stations basically say "Watch us! We have the best toys! Come and play at our station--we can color the maps in flourescent colors! We can find towns hidden in plain sight!"

I feel soooooo safe!!!

What a silly bunch of girls! This is what we do when we're bored at dinners. Weddings. Funerals. Thank goodness for cameras that don't make alot of noise!! Seriously, you would not believe what we find when we turn Kelsi loose with a camera. We came back from a wedding in Galveston about 3 years ago, and Kelsi had gotten my camera while I was loading up at the buffet, and the silly pics I had. That is one good feature of digitals--you don't have to pay for development!!!

These are the gals in our family. We were at a "Legacy Dinner" with Kelsi's sorority. Believe me, the food was not good! It was edible, but not good. But we really did have a good time. And Kelsi was so proud to have her gal family there with her. I, of course, am the one with glasses!!! And that's my daughter in the blue shirt behind me, standing by my sister. And of course, that's dear mom!

Well, I am feeling better today. A day off does wonders for the physical as well as the mental. Now the bonus! Hank has to stay home tomorrow and I get to stay home and watch him!!! He has an ear infection--I swear that kid must have the highest pain tolerance, cause they didn't know he had anything wrong til he felt warm and was running a fever! Anyway the Dr advised he take a few days to rest, and me, having sick days, well you can see where this was going! So tomorrow is another sick day -- play date-- with Hank!!!

Well, I'd better do dishes and get ready for tomorrow! Don't get wet! And if you do, call the news!!!

The Great White Throne!

Don't you just hate when you have to "worship" here????? All day Saturday, I was hugging the porcelain, calling for Earl, shopping for a Buick---whatever phrase you wish, I was there!!! Every hour on the hour. With a MAJOR headache to go with it! Started at 5:00 a.m. and continued til 6:00 p.m. This is NOT the diet I had in mind!!! I had forgotten how BAD it feels to have the "heave hos"!!! Then all night long, I slept for a hour, woke up, slept for an hour, woke up. What a waste of a weekend!!! Finally, got dressed around noon on Sunday, and had to make a run to the grocery store!!! Absolutely HAD TO. And it wore me completely out! So, I'm just lettin y'all know how fun my weekend has been.
I'm calling in sick tomorrow. I'm sick of being sick on weekends!!! Don't even get sick pay for those!!! ha ha ha
Well, bloggies, I am worn out from posting this, so til tomorrow, I bid you adieu!

Springsummer

You read it correctly--it's not a grammatical error. That's what we're having here today--springsummer! It was quite cool on Tues, but today---85! I don't want to go straight to HOT weather--I look forward to just barely warm days, and sweater wearin nights! Love the coolness of evening, when you can sit out on the back porch and wrap in a blanket. Ah yes, that will come. This is just a teaser!!! Rain is on the horizon and that will cool the weather off!

Just wanted y'all to know I haven't dropped off the earth, nor am I in the depths of deep despair---it's been a busy week! Tonight I am going to a hospital to visit the family of friends whose dad/husband is in an induced coma. Don't really know what happened--no brain bleed, no heart attack, no stroke, but he had some seizures, and each time they try to bring him out of the drug haze, he seizes. They have decided to keep him in this state til Sunday. His name is Gus and he's about 65--say prayers for him please.

Tomorrow evening, mom, sis, daughter & I are off to some sorority function for my darling niece. It's a casual "legacy" dinner. She's an Alpha Sigma Alpha. This has been really good for her the past two years, bringing her out of her shell and all (she doesn't need it around us--but she's lacking in confidence!). Anyhoo, off we go!! My daughter was a Delta Zeta and wasn't very active. She just wasn't the sorority type. But Kelsi is!!!

Do you ever wonder why, why, WHY people have to be so, hmm, well, hmmm, bitchy????? One of my co-workers doesn't like me. She has never said as much, but you always know. And another has seen it. She doesn't really DO anything, as much as she makes me crazy!! Well, yesterday she did a little something and I really let it hurt my feelings. Left in a huff. But, today I put my feelings back down inside, removed them from my shoulder, was the bigger person (?), acted like "no big deal"---and you know what? It worked. I felt better. My attitude changed. I could have ranted and raved to all the others and had myself a little pitty party, and what good would that have done, except to show everyone else how small I could be!!! So, now that the day is done, I am proud that I didn't show how she got to me. Bitchy---But now I feel a foot taller inside, just knowing that I really can control myself, and I don't have to give in to feelings!!!

So I came home and baked a huge pineapple upside down cake. NO WAIT--I'm not eating the whole thing!!! Tomorrow is the last Friday of the month, and sis always has me bake a cake for her office staff on the last Friday. To celebrate monthly birthdays. It's big, and smells yummy. I adore pineapple upside down cake---my favorite cake is the one without frosting. Don't really care for frosting. You know what's really good???? Brownies with ice cream, strawberries, chocolate syrup and nuts!!! Or chocolate cake with that. Oh boy, that sounds good. What do you like to eat in the summer? I also LOVE Dr. Pepper floats made with chocolate ice cream. Oh now come on! Try it, it's great! Really, no really! Try it!!!

My father in law still makes home made ice cream for every function in the summer. And it's the kind you cook--real custardy!!! Can't wait for those summer dinners!!! It's so good you can't stop eating it!!! Made from a recipe of my husband's great grandmother!

Ok, there goes the diet. No wait--I love to walk all over my little town in the summer. So it evens out. Do you like to walk outside? My BFF Penny & I have been know to go out for a walk, see an interesting house, and ask if we can see the inside!!! You can walk from one end of town to the other in about an hour. And we always see something new and different. AND--I find money---pennies, nickles, dimes, sometimes even quarters!!! It pays to walk! ha ha ha

Well pals, I have to go now. Just some thoughts falling here and there. Have a good evening.
